About:
Many of the problems facing America today, including political polarization, gridlock in Washington, D.C., too big to fail banks, out of control healthcare costs, widening income disparity, flat middle class income and low economic growth have one common thread running through them: Perverse Incentives.
The focus of this website is to try to connect the dots and highlight a) the presence of these perverse incentives and b) how to overcome them. |
Precariously, the foundation of so many of our modern institutions have become compromised because of perverse incentives. We, the people, need to act.
Warm regards, American Incentives |
Definition:
According to Wikipedia, a "perverse incentive is an incentive that has an unintended and undesirable result which is contrary to the interests of the incentive makers. Perverse incentives are a type of unintended consequence." A funny example mentioned: "In Hanoi, under French colonial rule, a program paying people a bounty for each rat tail handed in was intended to exterminate rats. Instead, it led to the farming of rats."
